The Forest Activities Festival will take to the grounds of The Speech House Hotel on Sunday 24 April 2016, offering locals and tourists alike a wealth of indoor and outdoor pursuits to try and showcasing some of the best of what the Forest of Dean has to offer!
Whether you’re hoping to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle or simply looking to take up a new hobby, there will be everything from archery, mountain biking, climbing walls, rocket science and bush craft to cookery, photography, golf and throwing pots on offer from a whole host of local businesses.
Some of our most popular activity providers will be at the event including Go Ape, Pedalabikeaway Forest Hills Golf Club, Taurus Crafts and Forest of Dean Adventure.
Quirkier activity stands such as Artspace will invite you to try your hand at trapeze and circus skills, The Forestry Commission will be bringing along a giant Stickman and dog agiity course, there will also be lots of crafty acivities to try.
Displays, demonstrations and entertainment will be held during the day from 5 Valley Circus, The Sealed Knot, Thai boxing from Master Sken Academy, & Riding for the Disabled. Or if you’d rather a less adrenaline fuelled excursion, visit the Walking for Health stand and take a stroll down to the Speech House Lake.
Music will not be missed out with performances from some local groups from Coleford Music Festival including Djabot, a Forest based African Drumming group taught and led by two fantastic Senegalese drummers, Arona Lo and Oumar Sagna. They are a community group bringing together people of all abilities and backgrounds who enjoy sharing their passion and dedication to this vibrant, infectious drumming sound, which lifts spirits and souls. They will be performaing and running a workshop if you want to try it out for yourself!
Sports fans will be able to join the RFU who will have a stand which will feature a fun passing challenge testing peoples passing accuracy, they will have plenty of freebies to give away. The Gloucestershire football association will be attending this year & will be providing football coaching for all ages including the over 50’s with the first ‘walking football’ sessions to be held in the Forest of Dean.
Innovative and original artists, makers and designers showcase and sell their work in our arts & craft marquee with some art based workshops available to take part in including an opportunity to throw a pot or paint a pebble!
The Forest Showcase, the largest food festival in the area will be hosting their own food hall and dishing out delicious local produce. The showcase will include an eclectic mix of local food producers alongside some of the best street food you will find in the area, so come along to try, taste & buy! Local ciders, cheese, chutneys, ice creams and delicious cakes will all be on sale so bring your shoppig bags.
The very popular dog show will be returning at 2pm, organised by Forest of Dean Dog Rescue. Categories will include Handsomest male dog, Prettiest female dog, Best puppy (under 1 year), Best Veteran (>9years), Best Rescue dog, Dog the judge would most like to take home. Bring your pet pooch along & enter on the day.
With the chance for visitors of all ages to explore everything the fairytale Forest of Dean has to offer, whilst raising heart rates and excitement levels to boot, the Forest Activities Festival looks set to be a real highlight in the calendar for families in particular, so come along & have a go!.
